The toughest things in life that we have to face can be where God does his richest work. At the end of my drinking, I could not do it anymore on my own. I had to surrender. It felt like surrender was “giving up” when, in fact, it was the first step in gaining power back.
Surrender to Win.
A paradox.
The dictionary definition of Paradox: “a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true”
This is how alcohol was for me. I felt like alcohol made it easier for me to be me. But the truth was that it took me farther away from the real me and from God. When I finally surrendered and admitted that I was powerless over alcohol, I had finally won. Surrendering to God’s will is not giving up power, but gaining power so that His light will shine in us and through us and light the path for others as well.
The paradox is that we become more powerful when we surrender. The power is there at our disposal at all times. All we have to do is surrender to gain power.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
